Mercedes-Benz is currently developing the second-generation GLB, which is expected to be revealed in 2026.

Mercedes-Benz has the largest portfolio among luxury carmakers in India, which includes both combustion engine and fully electric models. The German brand keeps making minor changes to its lineup quite frequently. The company has discontinued its entry-level seven-seat SUV- GLB from the India lineup.

The GLB was brought to India as a fully imported CBU from the Mexico-based plant. Apparently Mercedes has sold every unit of the GLB allotted for the Indian market. The GLB was priced in India between Rs 63.80 lakh and Rs 69.80 lakh (ex-showroom). This made the GLB the most affordable luxury SUV on sale, priced between Rs 1.60 lakh and Rs 7.60 lakh less than cars like the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Launched in December 2022, the GLB was not a great seller in India. However, Mercedes-Benz always had faith in the sales it would generate from the GLB. Mercedes continues to retail the fully electric EQB in India which is available in 250+ and 350 variants, priced at Rs 72.20 lakh and Rs 78.90 lakh (both ex-showroom), respectively.

The EQB was offered in both petrol and diesel variants, with three variants available: 200 Progressive, 220d 4Matic and 220d AMG Line 4Matic. The 200 Progressive variant was powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produced 161 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that exclusively powered the front wheels.

In contrast, the GLB 220d variant was powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produced 190hp and 400Nm, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox with all-wheel drive capability. Mercedes-Benz gave the GLB a mild facelift in 2023, which never made it to India. While the list of features grew, the most significant update was the addition of 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engine options.
