The demand for electric vehicles is growing rapidly in the Indian automobile market, and Tata Motors is playing a leading role in this field. Tata recently launched its largest electric SUV, Harrier EV, in the Indian market, with a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle is positioned at the top of the company’s existing electric lineup and is positioned above the Curve EV. Its bookings will start from July 2, while deliveries will be made later.

Harrier EV will be available in three trims: Adventure, Fearless and Empowered. Also, it has two battery pack options – 65 kWh and 75 kWh. But that’s not all, this electric SUV has many unique features that set it apart from other vehicles in the market. Let’s know in detail about Tata Harrier EV.

AWD Powertrain: First Indigenous Electric QWD SUV

The biggest feature of the Harrier EV is its all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain, which Tata has named QWD (Quad-Wheel Drive). This electric SUV is the company’s first vehicle to feature an AWD system since the Safari Storm. Also, it is India’s first indigenous electric AWD SUV.

It has a dual-motor setup, with one motor mounted on the front axle and the other on the rear axle. The front motor generates 155 hp power, while the rear motor produces 234 hp power. In this way, the total torque output is 504 Nm, making it extremely capable for off-road and high-performance driving.

540-degree surround view: Access to under-vehicle view

Usually cars are equipped with a 360-degree camera system, but Tata Harrier EV has surpassed it by bringing a 540-degree surround view system. It not only provides a 360-degree view, but also has a transparent mode, with the help of which the driver can also see the situation under the car. This feature proves to be very useful during off-road driving.

Terrain Modes: Different settings for every terrain

The Harrier EV comes with 6 different terrain modes, which give it better performance on different surfaces:

  • Normal (for normal roads)
  • Grass/Snow (for grassy or snowy roads)
  • Mudruts/Gravel (for mud or gravel roads)
  • Sand (for driving on sand)
  • Rock Crawl (for rocky roads)
  • User-configurable (driver can set as per his preference)

Additionally, the AWD system has driving modes like Boost, Sport, City and Eco, while the RWD variants get Eco, City and Sport modes.

New infotainment system: World’s first Neo QLED display

To make the interior of the Tata Harrier EV even more premium, it has a 14.53-inch cinematic touchscreen designed by Harman. This is the world’s first Neo QLED automotive display, which uses Samsung’s latest technology.

Along with this, the car has a JBL Black 10-speaker sound system, which comes with Dolby Atmos support. This system has been used in a car for the first time in the world, which gives a theater-like experience to the passengers.

New Digital Key and Smart Access

Tata has equipped the Harrier EV with digital key technology, allowing the owner to access the car without a physical key with the help of a phone or smartwatch. Apart from this, an option of a smart card has also been given.

The most important thing is that Tata has also designed a new circular key fob, from which the user can control 11 different functions, such as:

  • Remote Park (parking the car from a distance)
  • Summon Mode (calling the car near you)
  • And many more advanced features

Battery and Range

The Harrier EV comes with two battery options:

  • 65 kWh battery
  • 75 kWh battery

Tata has not yet officially given information about its actual range, but it is estimated that it will provide a range of up to 400-500 km. Along with this, due to fast charging support, it will be charged in less time.

Competitive Models

The Tata Harrier EV will have to compete with electric SUVs like the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric and Mahindra XUV400 in the Indian market. However, it will create a distinct identity due to the AWD system and premium features.

Conclusion

The Tata Harrier EV can prove to be a new milestone in the Indian electric vehicle market. Features like AWD drivetrain, 540-degree camera, Neo QLED display and JBL Dolby Atmos sound system make it a premium and high-tech electric SUV. If you are looking to buy a feature-packed, performance-oriented electric SUV in a budget of Rs 25 lakh, then the Harrier EV can be a great option for you.
